We're proud to announce that one of our teachers has received the runner-up position for Most Inspirational Teacher in the annual Student Nominated Teaching Awards (SNTA).
Fotios Vasileiou, who leads the BA (Hons) Event and Entertainment Management course at the University, achieved second place in a competition that involved academic staff from both the University of Sunderland in London and the University of Sunderland.
The award recognises the positive impact Fotios has had on our student population through his hard work and dedication.
With over eight years of academic experience, he worked for a decade in international management and joined the University in early 2020 where he has since been responsible for several innovative conferences.
“It is great to see Fotios Vasileiou as a runner-up in the SNTA Most Inspirational Teacher award. Fotios is not only an inspiration to the students but to the whole team in the Department of Tourism, Hospitality and Events. He is always ready to provide his colleagues and the students with support and creative ideas and always offers practical solutions to the challenges we face.” - Blerton Hyseni, Senior Lecturer/Programme Manager (Tourism and Hospitality)
“My motto is “students come first”. Education is meaningless without them. Everything in my work is based on inspiring the people who come here to achieve their goals, so a passion for inspiration is vital. That's why this award is the best recognition I could get.” - Fotios Vasileiou, Lecturer (Tourism and Hospitality)
The SNTAs are an opportunity for students across both campuses to celebrate the teachers responsible for their education.
Each year, students pick out the people who have inspired, supported and engaged them.
The winners were chosen by a panel of staff and students for six awards:
1) Most Engaging Teacher
2) Best Undergraduate Dissertation/ Project Supervisor
3) Most Technology Enabled Teacher
4) Most Inspirational Teacher
5) Most Supportive Guidance Tutor
6) Best Doctoral Research Supervisor
“We’re proud to have such dedicated, passionate teachers here at the University of Sunderland in London. Fotios sets a fantastic example of the attitude all our lecturers take to their role of guiding our students to achieving their goals.” - Dr Geoff Paul, Assistant Director (Academic)
