Course Content with Squarespace
- Getting started with Squarespace, choosing a template, adding content, and understanding the interface.
- Learn to style your site using both the template's controls and using custom CSS. Build a header and footer. A deeper look into some of Squarespace's content features.
- Connect your website to all the major social media systems. Create a Squarespace blog page which can be automatically linked to social media.
- Learn to create contact forms, collect customer data, access the data using Google's business tools, and understand GDPR requirements.
- Understanding website domains, purchasing website domains, and linking them to your Squarespace site. Setting up a business email address using your domain and Google's business email tools
- Sell products on your Squarespace site for either a simple or fairly complex e-commerce site. Managing sales and customers.
- Understanding Search Engine Optimisation (SEO). Promoting and advertising your website
Course Content with WordPress
- Introduction to and Getting Started with WordPress (Domain Name Registration and Web Hosting, installing WordPress)
- Setting up WordPress (Logging into the WordPress admin area, becoming familiar with and configuring the dashboard, editing the user profile)
- Adding the right content to your WordPress site (about posts, pages and the differences between them, creating pages, organising page hierarchy, creating a static front page)
- Blogging with WordPress (creating posts, formatting texts, creating links, adding images, videos and audio, adding post categories, tags and other elements)
- Customising WordPress: Installing and activating themes, installing plugins and using them, information about various widgets and working with them, setting up the custom background and header images, creating custom menus and custom widgets.
- Setting up an online store with the WooCommerce plugin: installing the plugin, woo commerce product settings
How to Apply
Students will be required to apply online using an online form. The online form will be advertised along with the short course announcements. Once you have submitted your application, please monitor your university email for further communication and information relating to your application.
All our short courses offer a certificate of completion for students who have completed the course and attended all sessions. You must commit to attending all sessions to be offered a place on the course. Our courses are popular, so if you don’t get a place when you first apply for the course, please don’t be discouraged and do apply again the next time you see it advertised.
