Pre-Arrival Guide

Overview

UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) are developing a digital immigration system. This means they are replacing physical documents – BRP - with an online record of your immigration status. This is known as an eVisa.

The documents being replaced are:

  • biometric residence permits (BRP)
  • biometric residence cards (BRC)
  • passport endorsements, such as indefinite leave to enter wet ink stamps
  • vignette stickers in passports, such as entry clearance or visa vignettes.

If you have access to an eVisa, you can prove your immigration status online instead of using a physical immigration document like a biometric residence permit (BRP). For example, you can use an eVisa to prove your immigration status to a landlord or employer. Using an eVisa does not affect your immigration status or the conditions for you to enter or stay in the UK. You can continue to use your physical immigration document until it expires.

How to access your eVisa

To set up your eVisa UKVI account please click the link below:

Before you start

You will need:

  • access to a smartphone
  • a mobile phone number
  • an email address
  • your physical BRP card or a valid passport with your BRP number or visa application number

The eVisa application process can take up to an hour to complete so please allow yourself ample time to fill out the application. Please also be mindful that as your physical BRP will not be valid after 31st December 2024 and therefore students are asked to complete their eVisa's by 31st December 2024.
