Academic English Language Course
Join our Academic English Language Course, designed for our students, to improve your academic English language. This course will have a different topic each week, including Techniques, Essay Structure, and Academic Style.

Regular EAP classes
Designed to fit around your studies, work schedule and life, we currently offer EAP (English for Academic Purposes) classes two days per week: 10.30am-12.30pm on Wednesdays in HX4 room 302 and the same time on Fridays in room 303.b.

One-to-one consultations
If you are facing a particular academic English-related issue, you can contact the EAP ‘hotline’ to arrange a one-to-one consultation. To arrange your 30-minute session, email studyskills-london@sunderland.ac.uk with your name, contact details and the issue you are facing and a member of the EAP team will respond to you within 24 hours (Mon-Fri).

What will the classes focus on?
English for academic purposes - that’s English skills for essay/report writing, giving academic presentations, academic discussions, reading academic texts, listening to lectures. There will also be grammar and vocabulary work.

What if the class is too advanced?
Fear not! Your lecturer will pick up on this and refer you to a class that better suits your needs. Soon the university will also be offering core EAP classes to help students who have significant gaps in their ability and knowledge.

These classes are for everyone
It doesn’t matter if English is your first or third language, our EAP classes are for all UoSiL students, regardless of nationality or background.

How to join
There’s no need to book the in-person classes on Wednesdays and Fridays. Simply turn up and join a session. For more info, contact the EAP ‘hotline’ via email: studyskills-london@sunderland.ac.uk.
