Hussin Alam is a graduate of the BA (Hons) Business and Management course at the University of Sunderland in London. He’s used the tools he learned with us to pursue his PhD and set up a company helping poorer students achieve the success he found here.

“Education is my passion. It’s the thing that gets me up in the morning, drives me to achieve my best and work to help others.
I am a business owner, running a school dedicated to providing less well-off students with the opportunity to access learning regardless of their financial circumstances.
I’m also a PhD candidate at the University of Wroclaw in Poland so I can truly say I’ve made education my life.
That all started at the University of Sunderland in London where I graduated with my BA (Hons) in Business and Management in 2014.
I started out in my home country of Bangladesh (where I currently have branches of my company) before moving to London at 19 to start on my higher education path.
To be honest, I chose to study business simply because I found the topic interesting. I didn’t have huge plans at the time, but I did know that it would open up loads of opportunities for me.
I’m so glad I decided to do the course at the University of Sunderland in London because it’s been the key to my career so far.
If it wasn’t for the programme, I wouldn’t be a PhD candidate now and I certainly would not have my business.
The University takes an innovative approach to major issues in the world of management. It helps that the course is led by some excellent academics.
Plus, the facilities are great, the learning environment challenges you to do your best, and the location is truly beautiful.
The University gave me the opportunity to immerse myself in a multicultural environment, learning new about different attitudes and approaches to life that make for an enticing academic experience.
I would definitely say it’s been life-changing for me. It was at the University of Sunderland in London that I first started thinking about how I can help students like myself.
It occurred to me that rather than being a job seeker, I wanted to be a job giver. To be an entrepreneur and give back to others like me.
The Business Management programme gave me the skills I needed to pursue that dream.
Today, I have four restaurants in Poland alongside my education company, which spans two continents.
My teaching business has allowed me to supply free tuition to less well-off students in rural areas, helping them earn the tools to change their lives.
That journey started with the University of Sunderland in London. It not only gave the theory behind setting up and running a successful business but also instilled in me a drive that has lasted me throughout my career.
