"I currently work in a coffee shop to pay the bills, but I hope to move into management and my degree at the University of Sunderland in London is a big step on the road to a new career. Qualifications are crucial if you want to change direction and move into something that you’re passionate about.

I was anxious when I applied because I was worried I wouldn't be accepted. But I prepared really hard for my interview and was delighted to win a place here. I actually didn’t look at any other universities because my friends recommended the University of Sunderland in London and the location was perfect for me.

I also know the University has an excellent reputation for helping older students fit their studies around work which was really important. I was worried that I wouldn’t be able to balance my work, family and study time but actually I’ve managed to stay on top of things because I feel confident and supported studying here."
