Love heart

Valentine’s Day is a time to show some love, whether that’s treating your partner or getting together with your friends.

While traditionally a celebration for couples, we thought why not use 14th February as an excuse to spread a little joy in the world.

That’s why, this year, we wanted to give you some inspiration for things you can do to share your love during your time as a student here at the University of Sunderland in London.

Take a look at some of our ideas, or give your own a go and make this Valentine’s Day one to remember.

Write a letter

University can be tough, there’s no doubt about that. And as hardworking and brilliant as you are, no student can achieve their best without the people around them.

Whether it’s a lecturer, family member, friend or anyone who’s helped you even a little along the way, use this Valentine’s Day to say thank you with a letter.

Tell them what impact they’ve had on your life and why it meant so much to you. Plus make it more special by handwriting it - no emails allowed.

Bake something

Nothing says love like cookies and cakes. Why not put the apron on and make a sweet treat to share around your class or study group?

Even if you’re not a brilliant baker, there are loads of recipes available or simple things to make but if you’re really not confident with the oven it’s also a lovely thing to go out and buy something to share.

Host a pizza study party

Studying late into the night can be a little dull. But getting together with friends to work your way through a complicated assignment can be a delight.

Next time you have an essay or exam coming up, try getting a group of your fellow students together, ordering a pizza or two and putting your minds to the task.

These gatherings could even be the start of your very own study group.

Carshare

Do you get to University in your car? Maybe you’re the only driver in your friendship group?

Why not help someone out by offering them a lift to class or taking them for their weekly shop.

You’ll be making life easier for someone, getting to know them better and improving the environment all at the same time.

Befriend someone new

Being the new person on campus can be a bit intimidating. Before you’ve had a chance to settle into our community you might feel a little out of place.

If you’ve been here for a while, when you see someone looking a bit lost, why not offer them your help.

That might be seeing somebody sitting on their own in the break rooms, or wandering around not quite knowing where they’re meant to be.

The University of Sunderland in London is a really open and welcoming one. From our students to our staff, we’re all here to help.

That’s why this Valentine’s Day we want to share that community spirit with everyone on our campus.

Let us know how you’re celebrating today by sharing your stories and pictures on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram using #WeAreSunLon.
